Picnic Celebrating Uruguay’s 201th Anniversary of Independence

Fundación Casa Uruguay celebrated the Bicentennial of Uruguay’s Independence with a new picnic, bringing together the Uruguayan community and friends from various nationalities.

We were honored by the presence of the Consul General of Uruguay, Beatriz Núñez Rivas, and the Deputy Consul General, Matías Palomino.

The ceremony included the entrance of the national flags, carried by the flag bearers Valentín Serratto (Uruguay’s flag), Luciana Serratto (Artigas’ flag), and Belén Bares (U.S. flag), accompanied by little Enzo Serratto.

The music was provided by Fernando Pirez, who delighted us with tango and the classic “A Don José”; Fabry Orihuela, a renowned Uruguayan singer from Pennsylvania, performing ballads, rock, and candombe; “Maryta Cumbia”, who had everyone dancing with her voice and energy; and Nico Pérez, with his Uruguayan plena classics. Percussion was led by Marcos Pérez and Black Drums, and the candombe dancers Edith Miranda and Daniela Clermont graced the celebration with their performances.
